The Birmingham Plastics Network (BPN) is an interdisciplinary research group that works with stakeholders across the plastics value chain to create new, #innovative solutions for society’s use of #plastics. The team is led by Prof Andrew Dove, Prof Stefan Krause, Prof Fern Elsdon-Baker and Prof Aleks Cavoski and in January 2023, the BPN launched its ‘Call for Action’ report, which argued for joined-up action on the plastics crisis whilst recognising the value of plastics. This groundwork paved the way for an evidence-based Policy Commission which engaged 12 commissioners and over 40 evidence givers. The Policy Commission was launched at the House of Commons in March 2024 and outlines eight recommendations for the UK Government.
We are recruiting for an 8-month Project Officer to support the Project Manager in driving the Commission’s recommendations to become a reality whilst assisting in the leveraging of external funding for the Network through business, policy engagement and research awards. The Project Officer will also work with the Project Manager to deliver broader activity to further develop research collaborations and projects on behalf of the Network, such as newsletters, events, responses to Government consultations, and work with key partners such as the NHS as well as colleagues from University of Birmingham.
As a fixed term position, working on an important national issue, we anticipate this will present excellent opportunities to develop skills and gain experience working at the interface between research, impact, and policy. This role provides opportunities to build and develop links both internally to the University and with external partners. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the role informally before applying, don’t hesitate to contact Robyn Macpherson or Kathryn Miles. #innovation #sustainability #university #research #knowledgetransfer #policy #impact
