Highlights
This is my Daughter Lizzie. She was diagnosed with cancer when she was 1 1/2, and spent most of the next 3 years in and out of the child cancer ward in Christchurch. She died in November 2021, about a year after this photo. 💔
One of the many organisations, charities or people that supported us through this was the Cameron Wilson Trust (https://lnkd.in/g4BCfkAq). It’s a beautifully simple trust that gives a one-off cash donation to any family that has a child admitted to a child cancer ward. No questions asked. No charity overheads, every dollar donated is given back to families. There are other charities that offer all levels of other support in this space, but nothing that gives so simply and has as much impact in that terrifying first week or two of a diagnosis.
I’ve contributed to the CWT over the years since Lizzie was diagnosed, and it gives me joy to figure how many families have received a donation due to my contributions. But, like any charity, it’s hard work for the trust to attract contributions every year and, sadly, kids continue to get diagnosed with cancer every day. So, this year the trust is looking to raise an endowment fund to be able to continue operating in perpetuity.
This post is me asking my network and extended network of contacts to help me support the CWT endowment fund drive. We’re looking for significant individual contributions ($50k plus) to make this work. I know that the construction market is in a downturn and the timing is not great, but, from experience, the timing is even worse when you find out that your kid has cancer…
Please give me a hand by reposting or or liking this post, and feel free to message or email me to find out more about the trust and the endowment fund drive. Thank you.
