Matt Chessen is a distinguished U.S. diplomat, accomplished technologist, and prolific author with a diverse background in technology policy, international cyber policy, and strategic diplomacy.

Currently assigned to Embassy Tokyo, Matt leads regional technology policy initiatives, building on his extensive experience in various roles within the U.S. Department of State, where he has significantly contributed to advancing U.S. international cyber policy and digital freedom.

Prior to his diplomatic career, Matt Chessen founded an ecommerce company and worked in strategic roles at Razorfish, managing the development and implementation of corporate websites.

Matt's educational background includes a J.D. from Georgetown University, an M.B.A. from the University of Arizona, where he focused on MIS and entrepreneurship, and a B.A. in Cognitive Psychology.

Throughout his career, Matt has received numerous honor awards, including Superior Honor Awards for his work on the Afghan Peace Process and his efforts in advancing U.S. international cyber policy.

Apart from his diplomatic and technological contributions, Matt is also a published author with two novels to his credit, along with several non-fiction articles and fictional short stories.
