From leading investment initiatives to spearheading growth in tech companies, my professional journey has been one of continuous evolution and learning. The shift from working in marketable securities to becoming an operator, which occurred about 11 years ago, has been incredibly rewarding and insightful, revealing my strengths and weaknesses along the way in the most profound manner.

Throughout these years, I've had the privilege to lead multiple tech organizations, each marked by supportive boards, fantastic teams, and ultimately, successful exits. The challenging moments we faced and overcame have been integral to our successes, and they served as invaluable lessons in character and resilience.

Today, I'm excited to be exploring a variety of roles beyond that of a full-time operating executive – acting as a lead sponsor in growth oriented private investment opportunities, consulting businesses at various stages of growth, and launching personal projects. The core of all these pursuits is the passion for learning and teaching. It guides my investments and consulting roles, helping teams navigate challenges based on my own experiences.

As I embrace this new phase, characterized by increased creativity and diverse engagements, I'm keen on exploring collaborative opportunities. If you have projects or ideas where you believe we could work together, please feel free to reach out. I look forward to hearing from you and learning about the exciting ventures you are involved in!

Cheers, Matt

🌨📉⛷Navigating an Uncertain Future: Skiing in a Whiteout ⛷📈🌨   I love to ski. I’ve been doing it my whole life, and over the years, I’ve become pretty good at it.

One of the things I’ve learned on the slopes is that when visibility is low, you're much more stable when you’re in motion. When your knees are pumping and you're bouncing in and out of every turn, you absorb shock better. So, if you hit a mogul or a drift that you didn't see, you can still navigate it safely.

If you slow down and try to anticipate every little change in the landscape, you're going to get knocked on your ass. Conversely, if you blindly bomb it down the mountain, you’ll be so out of control that you won’t be able to change direction when you need to.

Then you’re really going to eat it. Hard.

Because none of us can see the future, attempting to predict it will lead you to paralyzed decision-making and potentially false conclusions. What you should be focusing on instead are the leading and lagging indicators of your industry and customer base. Those will help you determine a definitive course of action to recommend for your business.

That’s not to say the big picture doesn’t matter. It certainly affects everyone. But its true impact can vary based on the dynamics of the verticals you’re selling into.

It doesn’t mean you should be reactionary now and overcommit, which will limit your ability to be agile in the future. It means you should be asking yourself, “What’s going on in my target markets and how will that affect my business?”

As a senior executive, your job is not to react to what's reported in the Wall Street Journal or what the nonfarm payrolls are. Your job is to be in touch with your revenue base and maintain a balance between momentum and agility so that when the fog finally clears, you can react accordingly.
