I mentioned yesterday that I'll soon be leaving Frontier Computer Corp. to focus on a new career. So, what's next for me?

A few years ago I began to feel a call to ministry in the Episcopal Church. I entered the formal ordination process in 2020, and in November 2021 I was admitted as a postulant for holy orders in the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan, pursuing ordination to the priesthood. I've since been accepted to the Master of Divinity program at the School of Theology at The University of the South in Sewanee, TN (the University is generally just called "Sewanee"), an accredited seminary of the Episcopal Church. It's a 3-year, full-time residential program. My wife and I will be moving down in August.

In the meantime, I intend to give myself a bit of a break. My last day at Frontier will be Friday, May 6, after which I'm going to take a few weeks off. In July, I'll head to Baltimore to serve in the House of Deputies at the 80th General Convention of the Episcopal Church, representing the Diocese of Western Michigan. I'll be back with just enough time for an unrushed move.

I have a lot of thoughts about the idea of calling, and about how my career and experiences have drawn me closer and closer to this path. I might share some of them eventually. For now, I couldn't be more excited to get started on this next adventure.

I move that we collectively retire "social media intern" jokes.

By and large, business social accounts are run by professionals. Interns do amazing work and deserve to be valued much more highly than they are, but the persistent impression that #SocialMediaManagement can simply be passed to the least-senior person in the company devalues what is a difficult and important role. It also contributes to the overall devaluing of skills associated with younger people.
