Happy to share that I have been elected to The Board of Directors of Roothbert Fund.

History: The Roothbert Fund was set up by immigrants Toni and Albert Roothbert. Toni rose to public notice as a photographer after she caught the eye of Frank Crowninshield, publisher of Vanity Fair;. He featured her shots in Vanity Fair and Vogue in 1930. She soon developed a following for her celebrity portraits in those masts, ranging from Clark Gable to Greta Garbo. Yet, it was her portrait of Albert Einstein that became best known (below).

Since 1958, the nonprofit Fund has granted scholarships to 1,350 Fellows. Scholarships are open to all applicants within the United States regardless of sex, age, color, nationality or religious background. While the Fund does not emphasize any particular form of religious practice or worship, it seeks to provide support to persons motivated by spiritual values. The Fund has awarded grants to persons entering a wide range of careers.

Since my scholarship interview [many] years back, it has been my honor to give back as a volunteer, having a hand in selecting scholarship recipients. After all, as an immigrant’s son and someone whose great-grandmother ran a film business in the 1910s and 1920s, it is deeply exciting to join this non-profit Board of Directors.

If you’re reading this and know a promising young person seeking financial support for a degree [college or post-college], our application process opens each January. Typically, support is $5,000-$7,000 per year, per awardee [subject to renewal approvals] https://lnkd.in/dN3MtTeu
