Highlights
Today is the first day of school for many of our children including mine. 3rd grade and kindergarten. “Where does the time go?” A fresh start to a new year for them to grow their minds and relationships. With the excitement of this let’s not forget this represents a changing of the seasons (hoodie season, football, and pumpkin lattes).
However, it’s still August, which often gives business professionals a false sense of security, thinking there's plenty of time left to secure new sales. But waiting until the leaves change colors before ramping up business development efforts is a mistake. By August, you effectively have just two months to move prospects from initial interest to the proposal stage.
As the holiday season approaches, prospects get busy, and new proposals are often deferred to the new year. To avoid this delay, aim to have your proposals submitted before Halloween. This strategic timing ensures you enter the first quarter with a strong, active pipeline rather than facing a dormant one. Halloween will be extra scary if your pipeline is a ghost town and you hear the words, “let’s push this til the new year” (insert evil Mu-u-ah-ah laugh for effect)
The point is make those important calls these next few weeks and “ask for the business” (your ask defined as moving the relationship forward towards your goal). Time moves fast. Before we know it it’ll be gobble gobble, then merry merry.
Today, I had the incredible opportunity to be a guest on the podcast “Shots from the Winchester,” produced by the wonderful team at Greencastle Consulting It was a special moment, not just because of the platform, but because I was joined by my father for his very first podcast experience. Together, we shared insights on my dad’s experiences serving in the Navy, the importance of being present, slowing down, and creating lasting memories. It’s a reminder that life is short, and we should cherish every moment we have with our loved ones.
I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Greencastle for hosting such an impactful session and for allowing me to be part of their signature event, #VetFest, which supports veteran-owned businesses (more info to follow). This experience is one I will treasure forever, not just for the meaningful conversations we had, but for the unforgettable time spent with my father. Moments like these reinforce the value of connection and the power of shared experiences. Thank you, Greencastle, for making this possible!
