"YOU SHOULD REST ON WEEKENDS!" "YOU SHOULD WORK ON WEEKENDS TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS!"
If it was possible to count the number of people who give "shoulds" on this platform, we'd probably buffer overflow.
I'm 100% behind the importance of rest - without it, we burnout.
But there are no rules around when freelancers need to work and not work.
If you prefer to get some work done on a Saturday morning, because there are no emails and notifications distracting you, you like clearing your head before going out to enjoy the weekend - DO IT!
Just pick another morning during the week where you get your lie-in, chill-out, read a book, watch cartoons, cook, run, play games, whatever you want to do to re-energise your brain and body.
Freelancing gives you the control over when and how you work - and there are no standard models which are right (or wrong). You need to put the effort in to find what is effective for you.
Rest is essential - but weekends aren't the only time you can rest.
Design work that works for you.
If you're posting on LinkedIn to find a freelancer, please... (to save you time, to save us time, to make the world a better place):
Include day rate or budget - it helps reduce the number of people applying who are not inside your budget, saving you time!
Include Employment Status or IR35 determination - Have you determined the worker in this role to be acting as an employee, worker or self-employed?
Include Location - are you hoping they'll be working remotely, hybrid, fully-on-site? If you need them with you some of the time, please share where they'll need to be!
Job Title/Capabilities/Outputs - it's nuts I'm having to say this, but the amount of posts I see where someone says they just need "a freelancer".
Category / Industry - if you can share what sector the project is within, it can dramatically help people self-select.
Dates - when is it likely the project will start, and a rough outline of how long you expect it to run for.
Or if you're just posting an Open Call to fill your little black book, that's okay too, but please say so.
Oh, and if you can't get back to everyone who leaves a comment (which is understandable), please at the very least edit your post or leave a comment to let folk know the role is closed.
Edit: So this resonated with a lot of people! I've added a page which will live on, in case you want drop a link to something, when you see a post missing information: https://lnkd.in/eDg-kAhF
