Is it just me, or is verifying that "I'm not a robot" becoming increasingly more difficult to prove?
I've noticed that I fail the image match more frequently now. I'm starting to zoom-in to catch the edge of that traffic light in the picture.
Founders - please stop disappearing after posting "I'm happy to start my new position as CEO of Stealth"!
For startup founders (especially those on their first venture), it can be immensely difficult to promote and build a diverse audience. But as professionals, we've spent years cultivating a network on LinkedIn, so why not use it?!
I'm a firm believer that sharing ideas/thoughts while building something new can lead to a higher degree of success than to build behind closed doors (I do understand that there are exceptions).
So what should you do? Create a sense of anticipation for your audience. Here's a few things that can help:
- Sure, announce your "Stealth" startup, but provide some context. Consider this your mini teaser so atleast people know what you're planning to build.
- Keep your network in the loop on your progress! Spending the week selecting where to bank? perhaps evaluating chat tools, web designers, or finished the MVP and having early meetings with angel investors/pilot customers? - Post your thoughts. You could be gaining valuable insights from your network, and more importantly, you could be inspiring another entrepreneur who maybe at similar crossroads.
- Update on a regular cadence, even if it's as simple as "This week was difficult. We did not make the progress that we anticipated". Building companies hard, but it is about holding yourself accountable and staying true to the course.
- Finally, create a realistic timeline for the company unveiling. Doing so can keep you accountable to your goals (whether getting the MVP completed or website launched). Avoid scope creep.
So if you have something you're working on, take the challenge to update your network, even if it's incremental steps towards the larger goal. The level of insights and sense of accountability you'll gain will far outweigh the "what if it's not ready". This habit will also help when it's time for you to send out updates to your investors in the future.
This may not be an exhaustive list, but it works! If you're looking for an example, check out Naveed Lalani and his posts leading to the announcement of his new venture, Pioneer Mind.
Looking forward to reading more progress updates from the Stealth startups!
