Kicking off my mini-series, "Interviewing is a two-way street," with Tip 1 - Ask Questions . . .

I was speaking with a candidate recently, and she told me that my voice was cutting in and out frequently during our conversation. I was so glad she told me, as I wouldn't want someone to have a poor listening experience, miss something important in our discussion, or even worse, miss the opportunity to answer a question or present themselves the way they wanted to. It reminded me of how 'interviewing is a two-way street' - the Interviewer gets to ask questions, and the Candidate is empowered to as well - it's all about finding out the best path, match going forward on both sides.

Just a friendly note of encouragement to ask questions - if you need clarification on timeline or the directions for an exercise, ask - if you're unsure about a term or acronym, ask. It's up to you to interview the Interviewer too - after all, 'information is power,' and the more you get, the better you'll be prepared to put your best self forward.

And did I mention that one of our Drift Leadership Principles is "be a curious learning machine?"
