This was not an easy interview to conduct and I imagine it was not an easy interview for Amy Emerson to sit through. So I greatly appreciate that she spoke with me. Ultimately though, no one had a harder day then the employees that were laid off.

A lot of Lykos' future remains in flux as the company pours all its attention on challenging the FDA's recent rejection of MDMA-assisted therapy. But I tried to dig at every facet of the company, from financing to executive accountability. Our exclusive interview after the company's overhaul:

There are Friday afternoon news dumps and then there's today. A little before 6:00pm ET, Lykos reported that the FDA rejected its MDMA-assisted therapy to treat PTSD.

Though expected, the news is seismic, both for patients and the burgeoning class of psychedelics. More than 60 US representatives in support of the application appealed to the President directly. Another 19 senators wrote to the FDA commissioner.

The FDA has asked Lykos to run another Phase 3 trial, a request the company was crossing-fingers it would not be asked for.

“That is a much longer timeline and that’s a different circumstance for raising money,” Lykos CEO Amy Emerson told me in a recent interview.
