Maxwell Lubin is the co-founder and CEO of Rise, a nonprofit organization focused on mobilizing college students and young people to advocate for free college and increase voter turnout.2 He founded Rise in 2017 with the mission of ensuring that the cost of higher education never prevents students from pursuing their dreams.15

Prior to founding Rise, Lubin served as an appointee in the Obama Administration at the U.S. Department of Education, working in the Office of Innovation and Improvement.25 He is a graduate student currently on leave from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley.1

Under Lubin's leadership, Rise has:

  • Raised over $10 million in 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 funding3
  • Grown to involve more than 10,000 students4
  • Advocated for free tuition at public colleges and universities, increased financial aid, and improved student support services1
  • Helped enact two years of free community college in California1

Lubin is based in Los Angeles, California, and has experience working on grassroots campaigns at local, state, and national levels.2
