Melissa Cristina Márquez is a passionate marine biologist with a focus on the behavior, ecology, and conservation of Chondrichthyans (sharks, skates, rays, and chimaeras).

Her educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Marine Biology from Victoria University of Wellington and a Doctor of Philosophy from Curtin University, where she delved deep into the study of elasmobranch fishes.

Melissa holds a Bachelor's degree in Ecology from New College of Florida and a Master's degree in Marine Biology from Victoria University Of Wellington.

She has been involved in various impactful roles including being the Founder of The Fins United Initiative, a Freelance Writer for Forbes, and a Podcast Host for Conciencia Azul.

In the past, Melissa has contributed to organizations like the Island Bay Marine Education Centre, Ocean Sanctuaries, Inc., Wildtracks, Oceans Research, and the Bimini Biological Field Station Foundation.

Her mission is to drive the conservation of sharks and rays through effective communication, data-driven research, sustainable fishing practices, and community engagement.
