Melissa Haswell holds a diverse educational background with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology/Biological Sciences from Hiram College, a PhD in parasite epidemiology from Imperial College London, an MSc in Bacteriology and Immunology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an additional BA in Biology from Hiram College, Ohio.

Currently, Melissa Haswell serves as a Professor of Practice in Environmental Wellbeing at the University of Sydney, contributing to the Office of DVC (Indigenous Strategy and Services). Previously, she held positions such as Professor of Health, Safety, and Environment at QUT (Queensland University of Technology), Associate Professor in Public Health & Indigenous Health at the University of New South Wales, and roles within the North Queensland Health Equalities Promotion Unit at the University of Queensland and the Tropical Health Program at Queensland Institute of Medical Research.
