This week, I wrapped up a 75Hard; I initially jumped on to this fitness challenge (look it up, it's no joke) to be a supportive wife, but it led to a handful of non-scale victories and the outline of some abs. Here's what I learned:
-
Eat the frog first. I learned this years ago in a corporate leadership training session: Do what you're most dreading on your to-do list first; it will prevent you from having a pit of dread in your stomach all day. In this case, it was a 45-minute outdoor workout in freezing temperatures.
-
Just start. Dan Beaudoin was 25 days into his challenge when I saw changes in his attitude, physique, and work ethic. I joked I'd join him for his next one, but he encouraged me to start. If you want to do something badly enough, you make time for it. There's no such thing as the perfect date.
-
Tiny movements make a difference. Looking back on the photos from Day 1 to 75, I noticed a huge difference. On Day 75, I appeared more confident (I stood straighter, smiled in the selfie, and even saw some muscle definition). You might not notice the changes happening when you're in the thick of it, but know that the changes and movements you make each day stack.

If you're not having fun, you aren't doing it right. Working out (or working) shouldn't feel like work. You should find joy and accomplishment in what you're doing. If you don't, it's time to change things up.
I'm not jumping into my next challenge right away (I want to enjoy a beer + dessert on a beach) but I won't hesitate next time someone invites me to do a challenge with them.
The antidote to the meh you're feeling is flow.
Book yourself some uninterrupted time - whether it's a no-meeting day or turn on Netflix
