Highlights
🎬👩🌾🌱 A HUGE thanks to everyone who came to our Women In The Food Industry private screening of the fantastic regenerative farming documentary Six Inches of Soil on Tuesday night!
After reaching out to producer Claire Mackenzie earlier this year on LinkedIn it was a delight to see this screening finally come together. It was a true collaborative event starting with so much energy & enthusiasm from Claire herself, through to a stunning menu by Aida Khan of Shola's Kitchen, and natural biodynamic wines supplied by Emily Barnes of Taste Union - after seeing her "Cherish Worms, They bring Life to Soil" coasters at London Wine Fair a month ago she seemed an obvious partner!
🍷☕Once the wine & chai from Aida was enjoyed, our attendees viewed Six Inches of Soil in an intimate private cinema and then enjoyed food & networking with the wonderful Women In The Food Industry who came along.
🙏🙏 Everyone took home a goody bag & big thanks to Nikki Leonard of LSH Auto UK Limited for the water bottles, Smruti Patel for the packs of eco-friendly rice straws, Hadden Fray-Smith for the cans of Rithm water kefir, delicious home made cookies by Aida Khan & the infamous Cherish Worms coasters from Emily! Plus I popped in some of our wildflower seed paper hearts so we could attract some bees to our home gardens.
📷🎧The montage of photos will give those who weren't there a flavour of the event, but look out for more on social media & in our newsletter. There'll also be news of our upcoming podcast with Claire and the two female farmers Adi & Anna so you can discover more about their journey & how Claire came to find such inspiring women for the documentary. Please sign up here if you're not already on our mailing list https://lnkd.in/eSRrCx7S
🙏 I don't have space to thank all those who came to the screening but it was great to see: chefs Chantelle Nicholson, & Jane Alty, food industry PRs Kate Johns, & Rachel Walder, food educators Rosalind Rathouse from Cookery School at Little Portland Street and Naomi Duncan & Nicole Pisani from Chefs in Schools, Food Tech & NPD consultant Marwa Mayan, Publisher Muna Reyal, Sustainability & food systems programme manager Sarah Docherty from Greencore, author Jenny Jefferies, Henrietta Courtauld & Bridget Elworthy from THE LAND GARDENERS & Maria Luz Casal from WWF. Finally not forgetting Simon Hill-Norton for all his help, kindness & support to make the event happen. The conversations after the screening were a brilliant way to end the evening & we all left inspired & hopeful from Claire's film.
🎬We hope to do more screenings & panel events with Claire in the future, but if you can't wait until then (if you are in the UK) you can now stream Six Inches of Soil at home on Vimeo through this link - https://lnkd.in/eqxNGEnD
This very human journey will change how you view farming & will remain with you long after the credits roll!

😮😉 So there was me, in a corridor with Michael Sheen 😮😉
📸📸 You wouldn't believe how long this snap of me with Michael Sheen in a corridor at The London Book Fair took to get! It seriously needs telling over a drink! But let's just say he was lovely.
🖋🖋 It was at the end of a panel he was on here at the last day of #LBF about diverse voices. "A Writing Chance" was co-founded during lockdown in 2021 by Michael Sheen, Prof Katy Shaw, Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) and New Writing North. https://lnkd.in/eCmuz4fN
A Writing Chance 2024-25 is now produced in partnership with the Daily Mirror, Faber and Faber and Substack, with Audio Sponsorship from Audible.
🌟🌟 The premise is that all talented writers should be able to access opportunities to develop their work, regardless of their background.
Here's a tweet I did from the panel for Women In The Food Industry where he says the idea of being a writer for him when he was young was like the idea of being an astronaut, but now hopefully there are a few more spacemen around !
