#Throwback to moderating a discussion on 'Pioneering the Green Hydrogen Era' at #WorldHydrogenMENA earlier this year. We delved into the key challenges surrounding green hydrogen projects, focusing on technology advancements and innovations in electrolyser manufacturing.

Technical innovation is one of the key building blocks for green hydrogen to succeed commercially and to scale up effectively. From renewable energy integration to electrolyser efficiencies and costs, to storage and transportation, to supply chain optimisation, there are multiple technical challenges for this rapidly evolving sector.  While significant progress has been made in green hydrogen technology, further innovation is necessary to achieve widespread adoption and cost competitiveness. Collaboration between stakeholders will be key in driving forward advancements in technology, address supply chain issues, and unlock the full potential of green hydrogen as a clean energy solution.

Grateful to Prof. Dr. Christopher Hebling (Fraunhofer Institute)Prof. Dr. Christopher Hebling (Fraunhofer Institute), Alan Tan (Hygreen Energy), Erika Niino-Esser (thyssenkrupp) and Manuel Kuehn (Siemens Energy) for an insightful discussion.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year! Here is a recording of the webinar we hosted just hours after the closing of #COP28: ‘COP28 Hot Off The Press’: https://lnkd.in/dG9fy9WE

Delving into the heart of COP28 negotiations, we discussed whether it marks the "beginning of the end" for the fossil fuel era. At the heart of the COP28 negotiations was the culmination of the first global stocktake under the Paris Agreement to reduce emissions. COP28 called on all countries to “contribute to” a list of goals, including:

  • the need for deep, rapid and sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions in line with 1.5C;
  • transitioning away from fossil fuels and accelerating action;
  • the global tripling of renewable energy capacity and doubling of the rate of energy efficiency improvements by 2030; and
  • recognising different national circumstances.

The webinar explored some of the many complexities around climate change and the energy transition, featuring insightful discussions about the path to net zero by 2050, financing commitments, and monitoring and enforcement mechanisms. I am extremely grateful to our esteemed guests that joined us to discuss the challenges and opportunities. Thank you Dr Nasser SAIDI (Chair, Clean Energy Business Council (CEBC)), Kishan Khoday (Regional Coordinator and Team Leader, UNDP), Maria Scanlan (Legal Director, Crescent Petroleum) and my colleague Sarah Ellington (Partner and ESG Specialist, Watson Farley & Williams) for your valuable insights.    Watch this space for more detailed analysis on the outcomes of COP28 and the energy transition.    #wfw #cop28uae #sustainability #roadtocop28 #countdowntocop #netzero #realzero #energytransition #justtransition #parisagreement #emissionsreduction #lossanddamage #climatefinance #greenfinance #timeforaction #climateaction #greenaction #sustainabilityleadership #cleanenergy #cebc #webinaralert #webinar #energyefficiency #energyindustry #justenergytransition
