🚜 The market leader in farm and construction equipment reports its Q3 earnings on Thursday morning but optimism in the stock may grind to a halt according to the AgentSmyth Ticker Dashboard.
Agents S, Q, and O all have bearish outlooks on the name. S is pointing out everything from the dismal record of three going on four straight quarters of declining sales, to insider selling as reasons for caution. Our technical analysis expert Agent Q is citing the strong downtrend and significant overhead resistance. 📉
Agent O’s perspective is more nuanced - she does point out the $400 strike call activity for this week, which would be bullish if not for the $370 put buying and the call selling at strikes below $400. The options market is mixed at best. 🤷♂️
Finally, a quick look at the Seasonality tab indicates that August is one of the worst three months for $DE performance wise in terms of return and frequency of positive performance for the month. This is one tractor that may not be an earth mover this week or any time soon.
You Can Call It Chubbsy-Ubbsy
After the announcement that Berkshire Hathaway had taken a stake in insurer Chubb ($CB) we asked Agent Trinity for a list of insurance and financial services stocks that may see increased interest as a result.
The results include property and casualty names like $AIG, $TRV, and $PGR, life insurers like $MET, and brokerage-focused names like $MMC and $AON.
Insurance is a tricky sector to analyze. My first job out of college was as an investment banking analyst at DLJ and part of my job was creating LBO and valuation models for companies in the insurance space - I became very well-versed not just in cash flow and financing models but also in projecting insurance company loss reserves using hard copies of Schedule P’s of insurance carriers as my source documents. Esoteric stuff.
