He co-founded the firm in 1989, originally named Catterton-Simon Partners, alongside notable figures including Frank Vest and former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury William E. Simon. Under his leadership, L Catterton has significantly expanded its global reach, particularly after merging with Bernard Arnault's family office and LVMH in 2016.14

Born on July 5, 1958, Chu graduated from Bates College in 1980 with a double major in psychology and economics. He has been actively involved with the college, serving on its board of trustees from 1995 to 2013.3

Before establishing L Catterton, Chu held senior financial management roles at The First Pacific Company in Hong Kong. Since its inception, L Catterton has made over 250 investments in various consumer brands, positioning itself as one of the largest private equity firms globally, with approximately $30 billion in assets under management.34
