Oh Congress, never a dull moment ....
Over the weekend the government narrowly averted a partial shutdown as House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was able to forge a 45- day funding bridge.
His "reward" for striking some form of bipartisan agreement is a "motion to vacate the chair" by Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida. (requires a two-thirds vote and would therefore require some degree of democratic support)
No speaker has ever been removed from office through such a move. Procedural votes could be offered to halt the motion or it could trigger a House floor vote on whether McCarthy, a Republican from inland Southern California, should remain speaker.
In another twist, Some House Republicans are looking to expel Gaetz from congress, who according to colleagues has targeted GOP leadership and undercut his party repeatedly.
“No one can stand him at this point. A smart guy without morals,” one lawmaker told the outlet.
Gaetz is currently the subject of an ethics probe that will help determine his fate.
And these are the people that we have empowered to run our country. Dysfunction at it's very core.
Yikes, article in comments....
