🔥 Quarterly Update Alert 🔥

🔢 The numbers. It's been a little over three months since I launched chilionjackcapital.com, so I thought I would share a quick update. In Q1'24, I talked to nearly 70 business owners about the possibility of selling a majority share of their business to us and I made three offers. I've concentrated my focus to vertical SaaS and DaaS (i.e., software and data) companies in the $4m - $40m in revenue range and largely stayed away from brokered deals.

💡 The learnings. Talking to founders and business owners every day is an absolute blast, and I feel fortunate to be doing this. If you're thinking about Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (#ETA), here are a few things that I've learned to be true:

  1. Our economy is truly vast and incomprehensibly diverse. For every SIC code, there are myriad segments and niches. And they are changing all the time.
  2. Given the above, it helps to focus. I've split mine in two ways. The first bucket comes via a recommendation from Josh Greenberg who passed along advice he had received: pick an industry where others have found success. And the second is to focus on an area where you feel you have an advantage of some kind, eg domain expertise, a mission/purpose, research edge.
  3. You will call on your friends and former colleagues for advice. Often. I've pinged a lot of you about this or that. Thank you. It's also part of what makes this experience enjoyable.

⏭ What's next. In Q1, I tried a bunch of new tactics. And in Q2, I'm focused on efficiency, i,e., doing more of what I've been doing, but doing it faster. 🏃‍♂️ 👟

Ok, that's my update. If I haven't heard from you in a bit, shoot me a note and tell me what you are up to. 👋
