The #MentalHealth and well-being of parents has been a topic of national conversation lately.

And for good reason.

As a parent, a grandparent—as CEO of UNICEF USA—I know that parents’ well-being directly impacts the well-being of their children.

Think of the (I know, overused) analogy: Apply your own oxygen mask before helping others. Translation? When we take care of ourselves, we’re better equipped to care for our children.

U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy underlined that fact this week in a formal advisory on the mental health and well-being of parents, citing several statistics related to parent and caregiver stressors and calling for improved policies to better support them.

I invite you to scroll through some of those statistics here. I’m curious if any of them will surprise you.

I also strongly encourage you to read the full advisory linked below and visit the resources shared alongside it from UNICEF, Mental Health America, the National Council for Mental Wellbeing and others.
