Michael Madison is a law professor with a focus on governance and institutions. His research covers a wide range of topics such as knowledge commons, law and technology, intellectual property law, higher education, legal education, economic development, and cultural development. He also has expertise in leadership and leadership education.

His specialties include copyright law, trademark law, patent law, the internet, art law, sports law, entertainment law, knowledge commons, entrepreneurship, law and technology, the history and future of the city.

Apart from academia, Michael is actively engaged in various other pursuits. He hosts The Future Law Podcast, writes for madisonian.net (specifically on the future of law and the future of Pittsburgh) and postindustrial.com (on the future of the former Rust Belt). He is involved in organizing and building initiatives at futurelawworks.org (focusing on the future of law) and knowledge-commons.net (conducting knowledge commons research).

Michael Madison pursued his JD in law at Stanford Law School and has studied at Yale University and Menlo School. His professional background includes being a former Law Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, a Climenko Fellow at Harvard Law School, and holding positions as an Associate at Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich, Associate at Shartsis, Friese & Ginsburg, as well as serving as an Organizer and Campaign Staff at Cranston for President.
