Highlights
Ugh! This week is the happiest and saddest work week I have each and every year. Why? Well this week concluded my 'Office of the CTO' internship program for 2024. While we have amazing traditional internships at #DNB across all of our organizations - this program and team is mine.
It's a 10 week atypical internship which, by design, forces a hand selected cross functional group of interns into delivering a real, usable, production grade product or service for the company. This obviously includes computer science, IT, and other Technology majors, but it also extends into business, finance, marketing, data sciences and other degrees as well.
This group typically ranges from 8-10 soon-to-be early professionals who have no idea what the project will be until I walk in on the first day. That first day is always a doozy. When the project is unveiled the terrified looks and self-doubt in the room is palpable. This small group of talented people are in a room with people they don't know, given a project that they all believe is unachievable, and given an unrealistic timeline by executive whom they think is mad. You know, just like real life.
Of course we have support structures in place - but this project is all them. I meet with them regularly, we talk through the challenges, and more. They self organize, bond quickly together, and the team dynamic is powerful even after just one week. The 'big finale' is a presentation to myself and our CEO Anthony Jabbour and other executives where they walk through the project, its deliverables, challenges, learnings, finances, and most importantly - demo the working product to the leadership team.
By the end of the project, its truly amazing to see the difference in those faces. They are a group of pros unafraid in engaging across organizational boundaries, have figured out how to navigate corporate red-tape, have had exposure to leadership at all levels, and gained a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of how business truly works. In short, they become the leaders of tomorrow.
This year the project that they were given focused on assisting our Public Relations and Media teams. In 10 weeks, build a platform that ingests all social media posts across the major platforms, using artificial intelligence determine a model and architecture to determine the sentiment and engagement on those posts, build a series of models by which to weight them in terms of importance and value, the results and insights must then be visible through a series of executive dashboards, as well as have an interactive capabilities for our PR teams to launch, measure and monitor various campaigns. The bar was exceedingly high, but they absolutely crushed it.
Congratulations Avery Dixon, Elma Bektic, Daisy H., Leila Lokman, Blake Edmonds, Karthik Kappagantu, Riyadh Mohamedain, Kevin Cawood, Jacob Vorndran and Matthew Lynch! I am so proud of you all and blown away by what you delivered.
My teams in Ireland are incredible. Are you incredible? Know someone incredible? Then you should know that Nikki Mitchell is #hiring.
