Risk.net reports today that Bloomberg is consulting on BSBY cessation.
This action, seemingly instigated by the very vague and unsupported IOSCO statement on July 3rd ignores the material challenges of replacing Libor with a risk-free rate to support the breadth of lending activity whose funding costs are both forward looking, credit sensitive and not nearly reflected in SOFR. Add in restricted Term SOFR trading with arbitrary credit spreads and restricted Term SOFR swap trading and you wind up with a very convoluted structure contributing to basis risk and net-higher borrowing costs. This might be a good time for US regulators to weigh in here to find some common ground given IOSCO's lack of US regulatory oversight.
