Prices are up around 22% since just before the pandemic, which is probably why so many people cite inflation as the No. 1 election issue. But, hey, at least the rate of inflation is falling. We'll have to see if that appeases voters, especially in the all-important swing states. In the battleground state of Georgia, annual inflation in metro Atlanta fell to 2.6% last month, down from a peak of almost 12% in summer 2022. Meantime, in the swing states of Pennsylvania and Michigan, inflation is down to 3.6% and 3.4% in Philadelphia and Detroit, respectively. The one swing state city where prices are still rising is Phoenix, which saw prices rise slightly to 2.7% in June. Metro New York is solidly in the Democrats' camp, which may be a good thing for the president's campaign, since inflation in the Big Apple keeps rising and hit a 15-month high last month at 4.2%.
