“The Bear” is a must-watch show for anyone running a team.

I’ve heard so much about it, but only recently started watching The Bear—and like many others, I ended up loving everything about this show.

Besides being incredibly well-produced and a true breath of fresh air in today’s boring entertainment landscape, it’s filled with professional lessons every high-functioning organization and team can learn from, far beyond the hectic world of restaurant kitchens.

👉 Communication is Key: The show repeatedly demonstrates how a lack of communication can lead to a team’s downfall. Regardless of experience, continuously improving communication skills is crucial. In any organization, open and effective communication is the backbone of success.

👉 Empathy: The Bear highlights the importance of empathy in leadership. The absence of empathy can negatively impact someone’s professional career and mental health. Leading by fear stifles potential, whereas empathetic leadership fosters a supportive and productive environment.

👉 Trust in Others and Yourself: The palpable self-doubt and imposter syndrome among the characters showcase that even experts deal with self-doubt. Trusting in one’s abilities and the team is essential for overcoming challenges and achieving excellence.

👉 Recognizing Life Outside of Work: Despite their dedication, each character carries personal baggage that affects their work. Understanding that work is just one part of your team’s life is key to leading with empathy and mindfulness. This awareness can help in creating a balanced and supportive work culture.

What other lessons have you taken away from this show? And who is your favorite character?

Found this great report from McKinsey & Company on The State Of AI from May 30th.

One of the interesting findings is how high-performing organizations are leveraging generative and analytical AI to drive significant business value vs. other companies.

Here's what sets them apart from other AI using companies:

1️⃣ Broader implementation: Using AI across 3 core functions on average (vs 2 for others).

2️⃣ Strategic focus: 3x more likely to apply AI in accounting, risk assessment, R&D, and pricing, vs. just for marketing, sales and IT.

3️⃣ Customization is key: Less reliance on off-the-shelf tools, more on tailored solutions

4️⃣ Risk-aware: Proactively addressing potential issues, involving legal teams early

5️⃣ Data-driven: Tackling challenges in data governance and AI model integration head-on

My take-away is that winning with AI isn't only about using fancy tools – it's about smart, widespread use, tailoring it to fit your needs, and staying on top of risks.
