Highlights
Today I had the opportunity to share some thoughts on the role of technology in supporting identity, social connection and peer support at Friends for Good’s Australian Loneliness Dialogue #TALD24.
It was my first keynote as CEO of VANISH (yikes!) and an opportunity to weave together some threads from some projects I’ve worked on over the years with what I’ve learnt over the past few months from my team and the community we support.
Some reflections:
- Knowing who you are and feeling like you belong is core to wellbeing
- Sharing experiences changes attitudes (and lives)
- Connecting with others who’ve walked a similar path can make you feel like you are not alone in a way that few other things can.
- Sometimes the simplest technological solutions are the best.
Thank you to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)’s Anastasia Safioleas for the opportunity to talk about the work we do at VANISH to help people find and connect with their natural (sometimes known as biological or birth) relatives. Our skilled and specialist team help people on this journey from both a practical and an emotional perspective. Our team walk alongside people as they navigate this complex and often life-changing experience which can bring with it highs, lows and everything in between.
