I’m running the Boston Marathon this year for Dana-Farber so families can spend more time eating fish tacos! I know it sounds a little strange, but let me explain... In May 2015, my dad passed away from lung cancer. I was super close with my dad so when we found out he was sick, I didn’t think twice about taking care of him with my mum. I worked part-time at night so I could hang out with him during the day and bring him to treatment at Dana-Farber, and before I’d leave for work, we’d cook and eat dinner together. It became our little daily routine to drive to the grocery store, gather ingredients, and cook supper. Our favorite meal was fish tacos. Towards the end, my dad’s mental strength was deteriorating, and I could tell when the ingredients we picked up for dinner, day-after-day, were for fish tacos. I didn’t complain and we ate fish tacos for about two weeks straight - the best two weeks filled with many memories! Now, every time I eat fish tacos, I think of my dad. Representing Dana-Farber is such an incredible honor and every dollar donated will go towards cancer research – cancer research that will find us a cure – a cure to give other families the opportunity to make crazy memories like this one, and many more to follow.
