Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to present to a group of high school students who were participating in MIT Beaver Works Summer Institute's summer cohort. I was humbled and inspired as we dove into the fascinating world of #quantumcomputing.
I started off by sharing Pasqal's story and the groundbreaking work we're doing and answered questions they had, which ranged from the #technical (e.g. why #rubidium instead of other elements) to practical (e.g. how to communicate with #nonscientists who are #decisionmakers).
But what truly resonated was the deep connection I felt when I shared my own #originstory. As a daughter of immigrant parents who came to the US to pursue their #AmericanDream, I often felt a sense of not quite belonging, of not meeting the expectations laid out for me. Just like #Rogue from #XMen, I eventually found my place in the world of #quantum – a place where, for the first time, I felt a profound sense of belonging. (Softie sand mud pies, ftw!)
I emphasized that the path to innovation isn't always linear. In essence, #passion, #grit, and #perseverance are the building blocks of any dream – #quantum or otherwise.
I was genuinely blown away by the insightful questions and high-level conversations we had. These students are living proof that the next generation are dreaming big!
As a full-time working mom of three littles, I'm all for cultivating environments where the #youth are encouraged to embrace their #curiosity, explore their unique identities, and push the boundaries of who and why they want to be and definitely not who they are told to be.
As mentors and leaders in this industry, to quote Spiderman, "with great power, comes great responsibility". Let's help the next generation find THEIR quantum.
