Highlights
The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of events and emotions within my professional life as I made the decision to pursue a change in career paths and enter a new industry that I have admired for as long as I can remember.
Last month officially marked an end to a wonderful career at OLSPS Marine where I occupied the role of administrative assistant and technical officer within the organisation. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to my teammates, colleagues and anyone I worked alongside, both in South Africa and abroad, for all the experience, support and memories made. Being part of OLSPS' success and seeing the company expand its footprint and maintain its position as a key market leader in Fisheries consulting and Data solutions is something I feel very proud to have been a part of.
During the time spent at the company, I have had the opportunity to expand my knowledge and experience within the consulting sector, gaining invaluable skills related to data analysis and management, requirements analysis, research and writing, stakeholder engagement and overall project management.
It’s been an absolute pleasure working at OLSPS alongside an innovative and dynamic team, in particular Amos Barkai, Bradley Khumalo, Sofia Graça Aranha, Jana Stokell and the whole development and research team!
I am incredibly excited about the next chapter in my career at Chand Environmental Consultants. I can't wait to explore all the new opportunities and adventures that await within the Environmental sector of South Africa and beyond!
The future of fisheries management?
A couple of months ago I wrote a short article for WWF South Africa on my MSc Research topic - Electronic Monitoring in the South African Demersal Fishing Industry. We need to adapt and utilise our technology in a more efficient and productive way that prioritizes employment, food security and of course sustainability.
