When not immersed in the world of education, she can be found pursuing her passions for cats, cooking, and roller skating across her dual residences in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Atlanta, Georgia.
Highlights
I am working on developing a public database to help families find Summer STEM programs safe for Black children (the program does not have to exclusively serve Black students, but it does need to take DEI seriously).
I need your help to fine tune my search queries:
For caretakers of K-16 students, when you are searching for a STEM Summer Program for your child, what demographic information about the program are you seeking out?
For instance, program location, length/frequency of program, mentoring opportunities etc.
I recently found a postdoc that I know I am the perfect match for. I’ve worked for the entity before at a different site, made significant contributions to their programming, and left with high regard.
However, the “deadline” (because what’s really a deadline in academia?) was in June while still accepting applications on a rolling basis. They proposed that the position would start this month.
I know I’m a great. No. Perfect match for the role and it will allow me to continue research I did for them a few years ago. So I am going to still submit an application and find the person over the role to send them a private email.
Y’all wish me luck.
Also, do you have any suggestions on what I could say in the email that is short, makes it very clear that I am qualified, and gently push them to review my app no matter where in the queue it is? [I will go in more detail about these things in my cover letter and CV but I need this email to be the flag].
