Highlights
Sometimes, high performers struggle to acclimate to high-performance teams.
Why?
Great teams have members who care more about getting it right than being right.
The focus shifts from personal achievement to collective success.
For high performers, accustomed to shining as individuals, this shift can be a challenging adjustment.
In this environment, it’s not about ego or personal glory; it’s about the bigger picture.
High performers must learn to blend their talents and insights with those of their peers, creating a synergy where the whole is indeed greater than the sum of its parts.
It's about creating a space where the truth is sought, ideas are shared openly, and results are delivered.
Last week, I enjoyed some time away from the office in the stunning Badlands of Western North Dakota!
As a CEO or executive, it can feel hard to step away from the work, but I've learned a few keys to success:
1️⃣ Hire Diverse Skills: Find people who excel in areas I don't. It rounds out the team and lets me focus on my strengths.
2️⃣ Value Potential: Choose additional team members who are coachable and capable of surpassing me in my strength areas. Developing and trusting others in areas where I currently excel makes the company less CEO-centric.
3️⃣ Cultivate Ownership: Nurture a culture where everyone feels responsible and empowered. People speak up, step up, and make significant contributions while maximizing their potential. Sometimes leadership is about getting out of the way.
4️⃣ Implement Scalable Systems: Develop and implement processes that are efficient and adaptable, ensuring the company grows smoothly. If this isn’t in your best skillset (like me), re-read 1️⃣ in this list.
Grateful for a team that makes these moments possible, proving that empowering others is key to a healthy and growing firm.
