Miki Nakano served as a Sustainable Agriculture and Community Outreach Intern at Hawaii Preparatory Academy from January to June 2021.3 This internship allowed her to connect with the wider island community and gain hands-on experience in sustainable agricultural practices.
Prior to her work in Hawaii, Miki was a FoodCorps service member in Washington D.C. from 2021 to 2022.1 After completing her service, she worked full-time for FRESHFARM as a lead teacher on the Community Engagement Team, serving as an Education Coach.1
Miki's commitment to food policy and advocacy is evident in her role as one of the Alumni Policy Chapter Leads for Washington, D.C., where she supports FoodCorps' policy priorities, particularly focusing on the Farm Bill at the federal level.1
During her undergraduate studies, Miki interned at the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) in Washington D.C., working with the Child Nutrition team to ensure children's access to healthy meals year-round.2
Recently, in August 2024, Miki announced that after three years with FRESHFARM's FoodPrints and Community Engagement teams, she would be pursuing a Master's of Environmental Management.4 This decision reflects her continued dedication to environmental and food-related issues.
