Milena Vuletic
DPhil Candidate in Mathematics of Random Systems at the University of Oxford
Milena Vuletic is a talented young researcher in quantitative finance and mathematics. She is currently a 4th year PhD student in Mathematical and Computational Finance at the University of Oxford, supervised by Prof. Rama Cont and Prof. Mihai Cucuringu.5 Her research focuses on mathematical and data-driven modeling of multi-asset financial markets, with a particular emphasis on developing custom generative AI models in finance.5
Milena completed her MMath in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Oxford with Distinction in 2021, achieving an impressive average of 83.375%.2 During her academic career, she has been involved in various research projects and has published papers on topics such as simulating arbitrage-free implied volatility surfaces and forecasting financial time series using generative adversarial networks.1
In terms of professional experience, Milena interned at G-Research as part of their Summer Research Programme from June to August 2024, where she worked in a Signal Research team focusing on forecasting equity returns from alternative and fundamental data.3 She has also completed internships at other prestigious firms, including Bloomberg, where she worked on DCM Automation in the Global Data team.3
Milena's work has gained significant recognition in the field. She was recently named the Rising Star in Quantitative Finance by Risk.net for her machine learning-based volatility model called VolGAN.4 This model, which she developed with her supervisor Prof. Rama Cont, uses generative adversarial networks to predict next-day movements in option implied volatility surfaces.4
Throughout her career, Milena has demonstrated leadership and organizational skills through her involvement in various academic and professional societies. She has been a Student Fellow and Advisory Board Member at the Oxford Foundry, co-organized The Quant Conference in London, and held leadership positions in the Oxford University Business Guild.3
