Today I learnt a new word.
Liminal. Stumbled on it while reading a book. Lingered on it because it has my name in it. Wondered on what it meant or tried to recollect if I had encountered it earlier. With no phone nearby to check or Alexa to ask, ruminated on it for a while.
Gave up the comfort of the cosy nook and found the phone and googled. Derived from the Latin word “limen” which means ‘threshold’, if you're in between two places or experiences, especially if you're transitioning between them, you're in a liminal place.
Liminal spaces are transitional or transformative spaces- can be best described as going through a change- it’s the space between what is and what will happen next. In other words, liminal space refers to the actual space or time in which you shift from one phase to another. They are the waiting areas between one point in time and space and the next.
It was apt and fitted so perfectly to where I am right now. Never too old to learn. What did you learn today, besides ‘liminal’ that is.
