ANOTHER "OPEN TO WORK" POST:
Today is my son’s 4th birthday, and the day I decided to do a formal announcement of my “Open to Work” status. The last time I had posted this announcement was the start of the pandemic when I was let go via Zoom. My son was only 9 months old at the time, and I was 3 months into work after coming back from maternity leave. Fortunately, this time around, my employer announced the lay off a couple of months ahead of the actual date. This has been a blessing but also a very anxious time for me. The idea that opportunities are abundant was a mindset that kept me going with every job I have taken. Most recently, from a logical point of view, I found this to be untrue. From an emotional standpoint, it’s something I need to accept but it will take time.
Although I have only applied for 3 jobs so far (and all gave me a NO), I found the competition to be quite aggressive. So far, all these jobs have had at least over 500 candidates applied. To even get an interview with a recruiter is a blessing. In all my professional years, I had always expected more from myself, but when things like this don’t go my way, I feel shame. I’m ashamed because I’m not achieving the standards I had set for myself. That’s the real problem here – because this leads to stress and in return, I’ve become a pessimist.
What’s next for me? Well, I think this lay off is God’s way of telling me to slow down and be with my family. With my brother and father dealing with cancer currently, there’s no better time than right now to pump the brakes and be there for them. I’ll also take this time to do more motherly duties and be present for my kids. Like, truly be present where all my attention goes to them and not just in front of my computer screens.
My hope is that I can find my next role with a great company that will let me thrive. I’m truly passionate about all the work I have done through the years and can’t imagine doing anything else besides Operations. If you know of any opportunities for an awesome Ops mom – please do not hesitate to message me!!!
