Mira Bernstein

Mira Bernstein is an educator and data scientist who helped launch the Metric Geometry and Gerrymandering Group (MGGG).2 She was an active member and major collaborator in 2016-17.2 Bernstein holds a research faculty position in the interdisciplinary program in Science, Technology, and Society at Tufts University and is a founding member of MGGG.1 Her LinkedIn username is mira-bernstein-1550a1137.4

Bernstein gave a talk at the Bi-Co Math Colloquium during Math Appreciation Week in 2019, titled "Gerrymandering: Why It's More Complicated Than You Might Think".1 In her presentation, she gave a brief history of gerrymandering and introduced the audience to mathematical tools developed to combat different kinds of gerrymandering.1 She noted the challenges of articulating a quantitative standard of partisan fairness and demonstrating race as a relevant variable.1

Bernstein split her time between mathematics since leaving mathematics academia in 2008.4 She earned a B.A. from Yale University.3
