Highlights
[not a framework, just ideas] People seem to be enjoying this here and on twitter so I updated (with no or less typos) the strategy and execution playbook diagram.
The other day, John Cutler posted and awesome timeline big picture view illustrating the messy middle part (strategy & tactics) in relation to agile dev phase https://lnkd.in/egQMmuk4. I thought it blended with some other stuff I had sketched so I played legos with it..
But the diagram is more like a fun exercise, as I said here: https://lnkd.in/eheKM9xg . As PMs we should understand product strategy, its purpose and components - even though we're not the ones driving these - for 2 main reasons: 1 - We're the ones responsible for what follows: tactics and execution, not the CPX, VP, Dir (in some cases). Those are the guys that shape and defend strategies. 2 - If the strategy is not clear, or if there's a problem with it, how can we do our jobs well?
Over communicating the strategy is just as important as the strategy itself. So it better be well-founded =].
There's an awesome article on product strategy from the folks at Reforge here: https://lnkd.in/eTQDVUUx
The book Empowered by Marty Cagan also has a section on it.
I also love how Gibson Biddle defines models for product strategy: https://lnkd.in/e8w4g2Gf
But recently I've really been refining my thoughts about product strategy by listening to Melissa Perri's podcast. She brings guests like Gibson, Cagan and others. The one with Georgia Smallwood is great.. they all are: https://lnkd.in/eQQQWRyA
