We just turned profitable at Quinn

The joy is as good as getting your:

  • first customer
  • first yes from an investor
  • first salary

And the whole journey - all of a sudden - feels as exciting as the first time one decides to startup

Same excitement. Confidence. Hunger - ki bas ab macha denge :)

Looking back, I feel the startup journey is just made up of good and bad days, and this was one of the good days.

A one of a kind good day

Today, we’re launching an all natural Vitamin C serum by Quinn

I wanted to level up my skincare routine. After exploring all options on the market last weekend, I thought - why can’t our team of 12 members build it in-house?

It was a difficult choice: to BUILD, or to BUY

We went ahead by building it.

Super easy to use. No preservatives. No additives - works like magic

Okay, joke’s over.

Last week, a leading D2C brand that I admire a lot decided to build an in-house solution of shoppable videos, instead of using a plug and play solution

Why?

Because they found the existing solutions:

  • Were expensive

  • Didn't deliver ROI

  • Product wasn’t good enough?

As an e-commerce brand, whenever it’s a BUILD vs BUY decision for a SaaS product…

BUY IT

After spending 2+ years on building and selling video commerce to Shopify brands, we know a thing or two about it.

Here’s why it’s a no-brainer decision to buy it, instead of building it.

  • It’s cost effective

  • Industry benchmarks to compare how you’re doing

  • Implementation happens now. Not months later - that too of a sub-par product

  • Edge cases are covered, that could otherwise blow up your frontend.

And if the sub-par solution that’s built in-house doesn’t work, one wouldn’t know why it tanked

Was it because:

  • the video infra was slow

  • Content was not good enough

  • UI/UX was not smooth and intuitive enough?

  • Analytics reports were incorrect

…Too many variables to get right, without knowing which one is/are wrong

If I were in a D2C brand’s drivers seat, I’d buy the best SaaS solution for each use case.

Whether it’s video commerce, checkout, loyalty, personalisation, etc

And do what I do best - building D2C products for my customers.

For sure you can use a lemon slice as a Vitamin C serum, but is that the best choice?
