Monte McNair
Assistant General Manager at Houston Rockets
Monte McNair is no longer the Assistant General Manager at Houston Rockets. He is currently the General Manager and President of Basketball Operations for the Sacramento Kings, a position he has held since September 17, 2020.13
McNair spent nearly 13 years with the Houston Rockets organization, starting in 2007 as a Basketball Operations Senior Analyst and working his way up to Assistant General Manager in 2018.24 During his tenure with the Rockets, the team reached the NBA playoffs for eight consecutive seasons, including two Western Conference Finals appearances.3
A native of Oak Park, California, McNair graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science.34 He played football as a wide receiver during his time at Princeton.3 Before joining the Rockets, McNair worked as a sports programmer and researcher at STATS LLC.4
In his role with the Sacramento Kings, McNair has made significant contributions to the team's improvement. He hired Mike Brown (2023 NBA Coach of the Year), selected Keegan Murray (NBA Rookie 3-point record holder), and made key trades and signings.4 Under his leadership, the Kings broke their 16-year playoff drought in the 2022-23 season.5 McNair was named the 2022-23 NBA Basketball Executive of the Year for his efforts in turning the franchise around.46
