Happy to announce I'm now Senior Data Scientist at Verdagy, a green energy company developing renewable-powered processes for generating hydrogen for heavy industry. Extreme thanks to Michael Jancsy for reaching out to me, and of course to the whole team for hiring me. Excited to be working with lab data again, feels good to be back in the Science Zone.

And thanks again to everyone who reached out with job leads since I got laid off back in May, they were all very helpful and I owe you all many ice creams. What a journey. It was a real Unemployed Dad Summer.

Last week I was laid off along with 20% of Shopify's employees. Alas! I had a great time as part of the data science team. There are millions of Shopify merchants, and we used a tremendous amount of data to drive design decisions and deploy a better product, improving the experience of running a shop. And I even got to meet my coworkers in person and bring them some homemade ice cream. That alone should have secured my position, but oh well.

So now I'm looking for a new job as a data scientist. Polishing up the old resume. Changing plenty of diapers (our 4-month-old does a lot of laughing on the changing table). Hire me! I live in Seattle and strongly prefer working from home.

I'm casting a wide net: I like the more science-ish side of data science (maybe I miss my physics days), as well as the user-analytics side (I do like working on something that people actually use). There's always some fun math to be found (experiment analysis, recommender systems, constrained optimization...). And of course there's also plenty of SQL to write and tables to maintain and malformed JSON to track down. Spark error messages to scroll through. I can do it all!

Thank you, friends.
