Atmospheric Modeling @ NCAP-COALESCE - Data Assimilation - Machine Learning - IIT Kharagpur

Mukul Kumar is a final year MS (by research) student at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India, specializing in Aerosols and the hydrological cycle.

With around four years of research experience, Mukul has a deep understanding of atmospheric chemical transport models, with skills in python programming, shell scripting, and coursework in machine learning.

His thesis work involved using a coupled modelling set-up (WRF-CHIMERE-OPTSIM) to enhance meteorological forecasting over the Indian subcontinent, simulate aerosol parameters accurately, and analyze inter-seasonal and spatial variations in aerosol concentrations.

He has also evaluated the contribution of dust and anthropogenic aerosols to aerosol optical depth over India during specific seasons.

As a research intern, Mukul tested machine learning algorithms for predicting forest fire intensity and is actively seeking opportunities in research groups focusing on climate change mitigation and sustainable development.
