It’s nearly December, and with the holiday & giving season upon us, I wanted to encourage my network here to consider #shoppinglocal #supportsmallbusiness
The holiday and giving season is a great time to consider how you’re supporting small and minority-owned businesses in your community and online.
Here are some quick thoughts on how you can support small businesses this season & year-round:
-
Encourage your teams, colleagues & families to shop small - whether it be for a gift exchange or to #treatyourself, challenge yourself and others to think local and #ShopSmall this holiday season. (Pro tip - for those looking to do large virtual gift exchanges, I’ve found Elfster.com is a great resource that helps randomize gift-giving and also allows participants to write in their requests AKA drop a link to a local business).
-
Write a positive review - Did you know 9 out of 10 people worldwide check out the reviews before making a purchase? If you love a product, let the world know! Your positive reviews generate word-of-mouth marketing and add credibility to a small business’s reputation.
-
Share the love - You can support small businesses you love without spending any money. Tell your friends, family, neighbors, colleagues about the small businesses you love. Folks are more likely to support small businesses after receiving a recommendation.
-
SoMo is powerful - It’s no doubt that social media offers one of the best “word of mouth” marketing opportunities. Help boost small business engagement by tagging, liking, commenting and sharing posts.
Small Business Plug: During a recent holiday in Brazil, I came across Mina Art BR in São Paulo - an inspiring small business run by a father and daughter duo! Their story is inspiring - “Born in 2020 with the aim of making the world more colorful through art and respect for the LGBTQIAP+ community. Founded by Duda, a wonderful trans woman, and Helena, her daughter, as a way to show the world a new narrative for the trans community: full of respect, hope and affection” Check them out here: https://lnkd.in/eaSV53Ey
Almost 5 years ago I moved to New York and did a quick Google search to see if there were any 'Washington State University groups' to catch a football game with. That first Cougar football watch party led to several more years of watch parties, lifelong connections and the opportunity now to lead the NYC Alumni Chapter as Vice President elect. Super grateful for the chance this week to bring together local NYC alumni and current faculty & students from WSU Carson College of Business during their trip to NYC!
