It was an honor to be present at UCI to receive Vishal Ramachandran's Posthumous master's degree. We received it with a heavy heart. University of California Irvine treated us with great respect. Vishal's parents had a great opportunity to meet with his friends and faculties. I hope their humble words will help heal the pain. #ucirvine
Determination, Dedication, and Discipline Hello, everyone. There is a fascinating story I want to share. After returning from India by the end of April, I attended my annual medical examination. It was an interesting argument with the Doctor as he found my A1C was 13.1, and my glucose level was 387. The Doctor challenged me to take medicine to control my sugar level. Here is in his own words. "We will recheck the sugar levels at our next visit, but you should prepare for the idea that I will recommend a medication. It's nearly impossible to bring down such high levels with diet and exercise alone, but I would welcome it if you could prove me wrong." The Doctor's statement was on May 15, 2023. We agreed for 90 days, and I had my Doctor's follow-up appointment today (Aug 24th). Today's Sugar level was 7.2, closer to the average set level (expected to be less than 7.0). The Doctor was amazed and told me he had never seen anyone so determined to bring it down without taking any medication. It was a proud moment I wanted to share with everyone. If I can, anyone can. My response was that, as a Vegetarian, most South Indian foods are filled with Sugar and Carbs, and I need to sacrifice a lot to get there. My logic was very simple: I don't want to take an average of all humans and start taking medicine. Everyone is different; I am vegetarian, non-alcoholic, no drug, nonsmoking idiot. I was told diabetic medicine will control the sugar level but can't eradicate the problem. My mom has been taking medication for almost 25 years. My obvious question is, "Will I be able to stop the medicine, and how many people stopped taking that medicine after some time?" The answer was scarce. Then why the hell do I need to take the medicine? So, I wanted to try my best to figure this out, but I was confident. Food is a habit that I can control. I tested the sugar level by pricking all my fingers in both my hands and legs simultaneously, but each finger gave different readings. I am not sure whether diabetes is a myth or real. The difference varies from 20 to 30 points. For some people definitely, it could be an issue. The foundational and logical question that came to my mind was, Do we need to take the tablet lifelong? Why it doesn't cure and only control it? LinkedIn doesn’t allow more than 3000 characters, so I must write my response in the comment. Please read that, too, if you are interested.
