Joan of Arc was 15 when she started having visions that she was destined to lead France in war against Britain.

No one believed her, of course. She was a child from a small village in the French countryside.

Nevertheless, she continued to predict events before they would occur. She told the townspeople that there would be an ambush on French forces near Orléans.

Just days later, a messenger rode through the town sharing details of the battle — exactly as Joan had described. News started spreading fast that a girl was foreseeing the war’s events before they unfolded.

She left her family to seek the Dauphin, Charles VII; her brothers and a group of men were skeptical but decided to join Joan of Arc in her mission.

Charles VII was the uncrowned king of France. With most of northern France under English control, he had not yet been officially crowned.

When Joan arrived to the King, she requested his army and told him that she was given an order by God to lead him to his rightful throne.

Charles VII ordered his priest to conduct extensive tests to ensure that she wasn’t a demon. Joan passed every trial they put her way — she was devout, humble, and honest.

It was impossible to paint a villain out of a girl who so clearly was destined to bring strength back to the throne. They finally gave her the army.

At 17, she led the French men to battle against Britain. She had no military training, only divine intervention.

Under Joan’s leadership, the French broke the English siege of Orléans — a major turning point in the Hundred Years’ War. She led Charles VII to the crown, fulfilling her prophecy.

Joan’s story is a testament to the fact that all battles are first won in the mind. Most of us are given a destiny from a very young age. It requires humility, courage, and relentless belief to fulfill our own prophecies.

Money, along with language, enables humans to solve coordination problems that other animals cannot.

Currencies are an abstraction for our instincts to collect, appraise, store, and trade — these basic needs will never go away (so long as markets exist!)

Any technology that enables us to transact faster and gives us more power (sovereignty) will become the dominant rails on a long enough time horizon. This is because the best technologies magnify existing habits rather than change them.

It is the same reason why social media exploits ego; why computing devices feed into our need for connection + communication.

The technologies we choose to have intimate relationships with almost always bring us closer to our primal desires.
