Bringing the healing power of art to public spaces
Natalie Blake is a distinguished ceramic artist and co-owner of Fire Arts Vermont, located in Brattleboro, Vermont. With over 25 years of experience in the ceramic arts, she has developed a thriving studio that specializes in large public art installations and residential projects, particularly in sculptural tile. Her work has evolved to include dynamic, textured tiles and pods, creating new possibilities for large-scale art.12
Blake began her professional career after winning the prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowship in Ceramics in 1994, which allowed her to study with indigenous artists around the world. This experience significantly influenced her artistic direction, leading her to create a unique line of carved vessels and hand-sculpted tiles. Her work has been showcased in notable art shows, including the Smithsonian Craft Show.24
At Fire Arts Vermont, she collaborates with fellow artist Randi Solin, focusing on both glass and ceramic arts. The facility not only serves as a gallery but also offers open studio experiences where visitors can engage with the artistic process and see the creation of art firsthand.13
Highlights
So much gratitude to Leigh Fogle at Fogle Fine Art & Consulting for bringing our work to Lee Health Coconut Point Health and Wellness Center -- our Dune Carved tiles are featured in the entrance lobby and are one element of a space designed to promote healing through both architecture and art.
The article below is an excellent overview of Lee Health's commitment to the role of art and nature as a healing force. As artists, we delight in the "scientific proof" that form and colors have a deep effect on the viewer, and that artwork makes a positive difference.
Skeptical? Here's a quote from the article: "Scientific evidence is clear and convincing. Viewing nature scenes plays a key role in creating a healing environment that can improve patient outcome. Research suggests that art can reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, reduce need for pain medication, increase patients’ trust and confidence and be a positive distraction for patients, visitors and staff." #EDAC #healthcaredesign #designresearch #evidencebaseddesign #healingart
A new large bird in flight is taking shape on our studio tables - this red tailed hawk has a ten foot wing span! This is a custom designed piece for a home with soaring ceilings, and this is just the type of project we love. Bring us you dreams and let’s create something wonderful together (and watch our FB and IG pages for the second phase of production and installation.) #howto #customdesign #designstudio #interiordesign
