It was beyond delightful to get to be a part of two different sessions at ACM FAccT this year! First presenting a collaborative project: Bits in the Machine: A Time Capsule of Workers' Stories in the Age of Generative AI with Collective Action in Tech, The Distributed AI Research Institute (DAIR), and Collective Action School. We sought to cut through the hype of the current press cycle on Gen AI to talk to gig workers, artists, and others whose work was being impacted by this new technology.
And two days later turning around to present, No Simple Fix: How AI Harms Reflect Power and Jurisdiction in the Workplace with JS Tan. It's the largest study of its kind examining what sorts of harms have resulted from AI integration into the workplace and, critically, what sort of factors are associated with getting those harms addressed.
