Some of the most overhyped technologies of the past decade related to the quality of life in cities: how we live, work and play.
Anecdotally, I think that's discouraged entrepreneurs from tackling big urban challenges.
But change is possible. We can make streets safer, air cleaner, buildings more livable, traffic less trafficky. I see it every day with Commonweal's portfolio companies: when Enertiv helps Starwood Capital Group reduce energy, Multitude Insights enables police offers in the Boston Police Department to communicate, and Deckard Technologies arms city governments with data.
That's why I'm teaching a course at Yale this semester on technological innovation and the future of the American City: to encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs to tackle these challenges.

Some recent deals we've seen: Insight Partners in Govly, Bessemer Venture Partners in Rohirrim, Battery Ventures in Procurement Sciences.
