What do we learn from other industries? What value and opportunity lies at the intersection of the ‘day job’ and personal interest, and are they really that far apart?
Today in Melbourne I’m at the PHOTO 2024 Ideas Summit, in discussion with local and international photographers, thought leaders, and creative practitioners.
Is this a luxurious and frivolous day away from the office, or an important day working on the business from a different perspective? The answer is obvious in my mind.
The challenges and opportunities are ubiquitous as discussed at today’s summit. Topics like: ⁃ the power, perils and ethics of AI ⁃ deep fakes - what is real and what isn’t. What do we desire to be real - in our images, in our assets. Is that asset really performing the way it has been presented digitally? ⁃ how to evoke emotion and ultimately action from those making decisions - the job of a photographer, the job of an asset manager ⁃ photography as activism - have we thought about asset/facilities management as activism? What would that look like?
With the fast accelerating rise of spatial visualisation, 3D models, digital twins, computer vision, BIM, and VR/AR, I believe the way we understand the power of imagery is just as important as the way we view data in the asset and facilities management industries.
ChatGPT will regurgitate 1,000 words for you, but is it of any worth?…..like a picture.
